Money isn’t everything

Crypto is re-imagining financial incentives, but some things are bigger than money.

A promise to get rich is compelling, but fails in comparison to helping someone express themselves.

Brands like Supreme, Kith, & Nike have built cult-like followings without offering any financial upside in return. Instead they give their people a story they identify with—a lifestyle to aspire towards—which is often worth more than any kind of royalty.

Rethinking ownership from first principles is a beautiful thing, but let’s not forget what really motivates people to evangelize their favorite brands.

The most successful companies of the future will incorporate both—a helpful reminder to keep in mind as we rebuild the internet.
